Putting the bar behind the TV would block the speakers and basically defeat the purpose of the soundbar. But I just tested mine (blocked the remote with my hand) and yes, the remote is optical or IR, so it does need some line-of-sight to the bar.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I tried putting the soundbar behind my TV. The remote did not work. I then put the sound bar under the TV that was mounted on a TV mount. The remote works this way. I can aim it over my shoulder, down at the floor, at the ceiling, or left or right and the remote worked great. There is a small display on the sound bar that shows the setting for volume, bass, treble, USB, and Bluetooth. The sound bar does come with 2 brackets so it can be wall mounted. If you can't see the sound bar, neither can the remote.
