I'm so glad you asked, Joni! For the washer, the steam feature helps improve stain treatment, and uses less water than non-steam cycles. The washer requires no additional set up or connections to use the steam feature. However, if you are also purchasing a dryer with steam features, the dryer will require a water line connection to use the steam functions. However, as you mentioned, if you do not connect the water line, the rest of the dryer's functions will still work as normal. ^Jecca
