It's about a inch in thickness. Pretty thin compared to the ones in the past.

The major area of the tv is roughly 2.25 to 2.5 inches 'thin', while the mounting base at the rear center of the tv is more like 6-8 inches where the actual base is attached. This increased thickness is needed to allow the weight to be ballanced properly so as to assist in preventing inadvertant tiping forward, or rearward. In my case, I was not interested in wall mounting so I did not explore if the 6-8 inch mounting could be removed. I do highly suspect that it can as to not be able to do so would sort of elliminate wall mounting!!
