Those are great questions, Ralph! This model does use some electricity to operate the control panel and automatic ignitions. While the cooktop can be lit manually if there is no power, the oven will need power to control the temperature. I am also providing this link (https://bit.ly/2S2CBmy) to the user manual. Page 9 begins the section on electrical warning and requirements. ^Jecca
