As I recall from my discussion with the Best Buy Team It just means the quality of the picture view. The higher you go in the series the brighter the TV gets. For example the 8000 series is brighter than the 7000 series Samsung TVs. I have had mine for a little over a month and I love it.

The "series" in a TV name helps the consumer know what grade of TV they are purchasing in a certain class. For example, the Samsung 8 series is typically their mid-range sets - not the lowest priced/specked entry point, but not their most feature rich/expensive set either. Another TV in the same/similar class is the Vizio M series.
