• I would imagine yes- so long as the USB cable can transfer faster than the hard drive you currently use can read. If I’m correct, the USB 3 transfer rate is 5 GBit/s, so I’m pretty sure you will.

• Any SSD will run circles around a mechanical drive. You'd have to also get a USB enclosure since this is an internal drive. I believe Samsung also makes a USB external version.
