Yes it can be, with using the "data Migration software that comes with the drive. You will also need a means of connecting the SSD drive to the laptop with a drive enclosure or Sata to USB adapter to do the migration from the HHD to the SSD. And then swap the two drives with one another.

Yes as long as the drive is SATA and is 2.5" then no problem. Just make sure it's a laptop drive.
