Yes, you can purchase a Microsoft Office (360 or student version) Activation Code (which you can also buy at Best Buy) and use it on the laptop. This laptop is ideal for college students because you are able to do just about anything on it. The laptop turns into a tablet for easy carry and is super light to put in your bookbag.

If you're a student, you should get either a free or deeply discounted subscription to Office 365 which would allow you to download the Office apps to the laptop. I think it would be a great laptop for college - especially since it's so lightweight.

You might be able to get a free copy or discounted version of Office through your academic institution. Some free alternatives are LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and the suite of productivity tools from Google such as Docs, Slides, and Sheets (requires a Google account). These alternative programs/online services may not be compatible with other applications and contain different ways of formatting data. For instance, I don't think you will see certain fonts like Times New Roman or Arial as well as a few other features in LibreOffice's version of a word processor.
