“I currently have the 2017 Tab A SM-T380 and comparing specs there doesn't seem to be much of a difference with this latest model. Even the operating systems are the same. Just curious if anyone upgraded to the new model and if yes, what your thoughts are”

I don't think its necessary to upgrade, the 2020 version may be of more interest.
