“Do you have to subscribe to ADT service. I am trying to replace my iris by Lowe’s system and just want one that notifies me if their is an intruder. I don’t want it to go through a system like ADT. Can I get all that with just a smart things hub”

Hello and thanks for the question. This home security kit will work without ADT monitoring. Once setup and installed along with your sensors and devices, you can control and monitor from your phone via the Samsung SmartThings App. Another option is the SmartThings v3 Hub and pick and choose what sensors you would like to use with it i.e. motion or multipurpose door sensors.
