• 2 but the screws are 3 1/2" long so if you cut into the 2x4 width then you have to buy shorter bolts and that means lower strength holding power. IMO do not cut into the wall 2x4 unless your walls are thicher than a std 2x4. You could cut out the drywall but that only buys you 1/2" and you need the long screws provided to carry the 125# load limit.
