My previous answer had a typo in it...this unit is between 3 and 3 1/2 inches deep. I do not think it would work with a wall less than 2x4 construction.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just on recollection I would say around 2 to 2.5 inches deep. It did not fill up the full gap in a 2x4 framed wall (which is actually 1 3/4 x 3 3/4). There was some space left and the cables had no problem fitting behind the unit. If you have a 2 inch depth on the wall, this unit would certainly be a tight fit. The cables are positioned in the space that is between the back of the unit and the face, so you have about 1.5 inches to place the cables even if the unit is pressing against the opposite wall.
