I just bought and haven't mounted yet but measured and it is around 3 1/2" but around 4 1/2" to the front of the TV. (Sony 55" 930) It's not a small mount.

At least 5 inches. This TV wall mount will extend up to 6 1/2 inches from wall with 1 inch spacer included in the package. I chose this specific wall mount due to an existing wall mounted casing for our old TV. Hope this helps. Good luck!
