With transfer rates up to 4.8 Gbits/s, USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 that has a transfer rate of 480Mbits/s. However, USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 if your PC only has the USB 2.0 port. I was in your position and opted for adding a four port USB 3.0 PCIe card in a vacant PCI-E Express slot to take advantage of the faster USB 3.0 transfer rates. It comes with a USB 3.0 cable that also works with your USB 2.0 port if you want to stay with that. Format the drive when you install it to get rid of the Seagate storage console software and you will have the full 8tb capacity which you can back up to a second one, if your smart, using Carbon Copy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All usb ports/cables are backwards compatible. The difference is each newer version (2.0, 3.0) can transfer data at faster speeds. USB is the fastest usb connection there is now transferring data at 5gbps (over 10x faster than USB 2.0). Yes it will work on your laptop, you can just plug it in to your USB 2.0 port, you just won't get 3.0 speeds. The drive has 7.27TB available storage.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the cable supplied is usb 3.0, but the computer side connection is just your plain old usb rectangle. It will work with usb 2.0 or even 1.1 ports, however its transfer speed will be limited to the max those connections allow.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Product is 8TB at 1000MB per GB. Therefore, it is actually not 8TB, but something like 7.X TB. However, all manufacturers do this now days. As for the 3.0 USB, it is backward compatible with 2.0. However, you just dont get the added speed of USB 3.0. The only real difference you see on the cable is that the plastic is blue, showing it is USB 3.0 [USB SS, or Super Speed]
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.USB 3.0 is a newer and faster USB version. The plug on cable and port on laptop are deigned in such a way that both USB versions are compatible. All external USB drives/devices are designed to work with both versions. If you are using a USB 3.0 drive on USB 3.0 port then the data transfers are faster. If you put this drive on a USB 2.0 then the speed will be same as using an older external drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All USB 3 are backward compatible with USB 2. You will just not get that additional speed increase that comes with USB 3. The USB 3 connector is on the drive case. The USB connector to connect to your PC is the same USB connector as USB 2.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.USB 3.0 has a faster data rate transfer. Unit comes with a USB 3 to USB 2 cable. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the drive will still work connected to usb 2.0. The only difference you will see is the data transfer speed. Usb 3.0 os backwards compatible with Usb 2.0.
