i bought the smart lock but didnt realize it needed the security system to use.. can i just buy the key pad instead of the whole security system package? will the key pad work with just the smart lock? null

You need the whole system because it communicates with the base.  You don’t have to have the monitoring service.

Sorry to hear that. The Keypad itself is a remote control for the system, and it's really the Base Station that the Smart Lock would need to connect to. But you'll need the Keypad to control it, so you'll need to get a package that has both.
