“When the sensor is triggered, will it activate the entire alarm system (alarm on base station and auxiliary sirens) the same way as if someone broke into the property? The reason I ask is because I was just woken up by a phone call saying there was a leak”

The Water Sensor should indeed be triggering a siren from the Base Station and Wireless Siren, though it is a very different tone from an intruder alarm.
