“I’m not sure if this radio has to be docked in order to receive signal. I want to use the radio as a portable unit outdoors on patio. I would connect the dock to stereo and have outdoor speakers to listen to Sirius radio controlling the stations selection”

Yes it needs the dock to work. If you want to take it along with you , then you need to buy a separate boom box to carry any where.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it has to be docked to work that is were the antenna is connected then it connects to a receiver the reciever is were you can hook up any speajers wanted anywere around your house from the receiver but not move the radio from docking station.
