If your new stereo is an aftermarket stereo and it says XM ready...you will still need the XM tuner to hook up to your current stereo. XM tuner has to be wired with your current stereo. XM tuner will have the antenna to receive the XM satellite reception. Once you have installed the XM tuner, you will need to call XM and have them activate your XM tuner ID. I hope this helps.
