For optimum reception your satellite antenna must be on the outside of your vehicle away from all obstructions and ideally on the highest point on your vehicle. However, when driving through mountainous areas or roads with tall trees on the south side you will loose reception as the satellite signals can't travel through foliage, buildings or mountains. We get good reception in the middle of Happy Valley (State College) but can lose the signal when approaching the mountains to the south.
