Can I use this to turn off my lights while I am away from home? Also, do I get the starter kit and then multiple bulbs or do I need to get a box thing for each room? Thanks so much null

Yes, you can turn off your lights from your phone (via Google Home app) when you are away from home. You don't need this starter kit per room unless you want multiple Google Home minis throughout your home (I have several) but obviously the number of smart bulbs (should you want them) will outweigh the number of Google Home minis you need. In other words, one Google Home mini could control all of the smart bulbs you have in your house. You would just need to be within earshot of that one mini when asking Google to turn lights on and off. For me, I keep one Google Home on each floor of my house

Yes, you can control lights from outside your home using the Google Home app on your phone. Technically, you only need the bulbs, if you already have a google home in your house. It's just easier if you have multiple minis around your home since you can call out from anywhere.

You get only one bulb, but you can buy more bulbs individually without having to pay for the extra Google Home Mini. The system is also compatible with any number of other smart lighting products from Lutron, Phillips, or LiFX, so you can really build it out however you want.

Yes, the lights can be turned off when remote. We used it most recently on a family trip to New Hampshire to make it appear like we were home.

Also, any CbyGE bulb can be connect to any Google Home device...so you only need to buy additional bulbs, no additional bundles (unless of course you want more Google Home Minis!).

From the basics I haven't been able to get google home to control anything from outside of my home network. You can get multiple lights and only have base like the mini, but multiple devices are useful around the house I have one in my kitchen/living room and one in my bedroom. You don't even need a base item as long as you have google home on a compatible cell phone or tablet to control the lights. The base devices just make things easier and more hands free. Hey google turn on/off which ever light. I use mine for an alarm clock as well as a kitchen timer. Multiple devices can work as an intercom system. I think you have to have something extra to use it outside of the house.

I tested that myself, today. Just before heading home from an appointment. I opened the Google Home App, found my devices list, and there were my lights. I turned them both on and set two different brightness levels. When we got home, both lights were on, and set to the different brightness levels. It works.

The Google Assistant device nears to be nearby to find the lights for setup. Unless your lights are within the 40 ft range (suggested by Google/GE) I don't think they can be controlled. That said, each Assistant can control a lot of lights, all with unique names (such as, Master 1, Master 2, Master 3, etc.).

If I understand your question accurately, you are asking if you can remotely control the bulbs from outside your home and the answer is yes. Using the Google home app you can control all devices that have been configured through the app. I also have a hub to integrate my various smart home devices that work on different protocols. If you want to be able to voice control your devices you will need to have a puck in each location. As an example, in my master bedroom I have one that I can tell to turn on lights in other rooms. I have a couple pucks throughout the house so that I don't have to scream across rooms to do something.

Yes, you can control the lights using your phone's Google Home App when you're away from home. The Mini is handy because you can control multiple lights (or other devices) with your voice. Depending on how large your home is, having more than one Mini makes it easy to control devices without having to pick up your phone to use the home App or to have to go to another room where a Mini is available. So yes, having more than one Mini (or similar) just makes it easier on you. As I noted, the Mini needs to communicate with the devices you're trying to control. Thus, if you've implemented a fair number of Bluetooth enabled bulbs around your house, you need sufficient Minis in close enough proximity to the bulbs to control them.
