This is for use directly under the TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unless there's a cabinet beneath the wall mounted TV on which to place the PlayBase, I'd probably go with the sound bar. I have my stand mounted TV on top of the PlayBase and its definitely an improvement over the TV speakers (as good as they are). It may be a bit disconcerting to be watching the TV on the wall and hearing all the sound coming from a different location if use the PlayBase set up several feet away (and you cannot have your TV speakers AND the PlayBase working together -- in the PlayBase setup, you turn your TV speakers OFF). Of course, you might be able to get away with that if you use the base with additional speakers (in a 5.1 set-up).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Sonos Playbase is designed specifically for placing under a TV that is NOT being mounted on the wall. It does sound best if placed below the TV and in most cases the TV is placed directly on the playbase. My TV (Vizio) has its leg stands very wide so my tv is not directly on the playbase but i have placed the playbase directly underneath the TV. It sounds fantastic and setup using the Sonos app was quick and easy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your TV is NOT wall-mounted this is perfect. It's designed for the TV to be placed on top of it, I think it will support something like 75-80 lbs. It makes a huge improvement in sound quality as well, we're very happy with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. So, I'm slightly confused here. Hopefully I'm understanding you correctly. 1. If you are NOT mounting the tv to the wall, simply place the play base under the tv (the playbase is meant to hold up a TV). 2. It cannot be feet away without extending the digital optical cable. It's 1 cable from the playbase to your TV, the one in the box is about 2 or 3 feet long. The playbase is GREAT though. It's super simple to set up, sounds great and if you have other sonos speakers, creating surround sound is a breeze. Literally the greatest. The sound quality is unparalleled. Truly. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and it's amazing.
