Great question! You can absolutely do this. You would use the Airplay 2 functionality of your phone to play the music that is stored on your phone. You can do the same with your XM streaming service or you can link your XM account to your system and control it through the Sonos app. If you do not already own the amplifier or Echo Link Amp you could also purchase a Sonos Amp which would give you the same functionality as the set up you describe in one device with a very powerful, high quality amp!
