The sub helps as it take the lower end away from the main speaker living it easier for the dialogue to come through clearer

I have a Sony Bravia that improves the speech clarity so it is easier to understand.

I had to turn it down for TV shows and then up again for movies.  In my opinion it will not help with dialogue.  Spoken word does not have that low of a frequency.
