“When you say the distance between the legs in the soundbar position is 45 3/8 inches.....Is that from the inside of the legs or to the outside of the legs. My TV stand is 47 1/2 inches wide.”

The measurement is to the outside of the legs. It will definitely fit on your tv stand. Mine measures 44 3/8” inside to inside and 45 1/4” outside to outside. I keep mine in the soundbar position.
