“Had this installed at Best buy several months ago. Now the microphone is so distorted when speaking to the driver on a phone call via apple carplay. Is there a setting that needs to be adjusted for the microphone? Gain or some other adjustment?”

Few things you can try to do. 1) make sure you sony head unit is up to date on the firmware, update it 2)get one of those black microphone cover looks like a beanie dont know what its called sorry, but a microphone cover 3)hardest one gotta check the wire make sure its not broken somewhere so follow the wire make sure its all good might have to get back there behind the head unit. 4)take it back to best buy and ask them to do it.
