Hi billf, they're almost the same. However, the X940D series doesn't have X-tended Dynamic Range™ PRO which is present in the Z9D series. Thanks! ^Ron
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Billf. The Z9D has better quality chipping. There is little if any visual difference in the 2 TV's. I've done an extensive amount of research on this and even talked with a Sony rep. I couldn't understand why there was a $5K difference in price. Here is what Sony told me. The Z9D is a newer model. Other than that the differences are way to minor to spend another $5K. I bought the 940D and am very happy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.HD visionMax website claims it has a "higher version" of the sony xbr75x940D with the "UC2" coding. It claims to have up to 14 bit upscaling and 1800 nits with "superior" picture quality "bar none" . I called Sony and their sales people don't seem to be too up on it. any thoughts???? HD vision Max sells the 940D for $2399 and the "higher version" for $3699. I got one and thhe picture is much more amazaing and crisp than my previous sony xbr65x930D. It's almost as good as my LG OLEDE7P. what's going on? I checked a variety of other websites and no one else seem to have it. what gives?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Z9 is top of the line with the most powerful/fastest processor. If you're going 65 inch choose that. If you want the bigger tv 940 is a solid choice. The 75 inch equivalent for z9 is about 9000, not sure if it's worth dropping that kind of cash.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the magnolia department who I consulted when I bought my tv, the z9d tv implements the same visual technology that they use to build movies. This is what makes it a higher cost. When viewing both tv's side by side there are certian visualizations that appear on the z9d that aren't visible on the xbr940D but the 940D is one of the most detailed screens. There is hardly a difference between the two and for the price point it's all however much your wallet can handle. If you want the best of the best then get the z9d if you want best of the best with affordability then get the 940D.
