I wish I had an answer, I decided to have Geek squad install which will be this Saturday 11/28... hope mine works

Hi DONW, We regret to hear you're having issues with 'the subwoofer. If the status indicator on the
subwoofer lights in red, try the following:

– Move the subwoofer to a location near the Bar Speaker so that the status indicator on the subwoofer lights in green or orange.
– Follow the steps in “Performing the Wireless Connection of the Subwoofer (SECURE LINK)” (page 26) on this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4748/e34a75abf7aac4f23b7cd29347800824/47487571M.pdf
