The sound is awesome and has plenty of volume. I went from a surround sound system to this sound bar. With the surround sound system I had to use closed caption because I have some hearing loss. The sound is so clear that I no longer need closed caption. This was a pleasant surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It hooks directly to the TV using Optical or HDMI. Using HDMI with Sony TV unifies the remote control functions..
