“I hooked up my Soundbar using the HDMI Arc cable only. I have sound but my soundbar remote is useless. I can't change the functions, ie Cinema versus Voice, etc. If I hooked up both the HDMI and the optical cable, would this work?”

There is no need for 2 connections, I use HDMI ARC only and I can control my system with either the Sony remote or the TV’s remote. YouTube is a good source for information for setting up HDMI ARC; not sure why your Sony remote is useless

To check if certain functions are working, lighting, or flashing of the indicators on the soundbar will indicate which functions are currently enabled.
