Are these the older version or version 2? My understanding is that the older version used MINI USB & the newer version uses MICRO USB. The description mentions MINI USB several times so that seems to indicate these are the older version? null

These are micro USB. Just verified. So, if your research into the versions and their port types is correct, then these are the newer veresion.

Correcting my old answer: These are the new models. The product information is incorrect. 
This product (best buy model number and everything) is available in my local store and I bought it. Micro-USB ports and larger batteries. Incompatible with PS3. 
The product info is completely false advertising. There is NO charging cables included.
