I have both and I would choose the Sony speaker.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.JBL... hands down. I just wrote a review on that Sony. I bought it and the JBL Flip 5 thinking it was like my old Charge 3 (they don't show the size online... it was tiny, like an inch over my hand from palm to middle finger... I am returning both of these and getting the Charge 5, hoping they kept the intense "meaty", as you called it, sound my Charge 3 had. Also, I bought the Charge 3 6 years ago for my then 14 yr old and she banged, bashed, and god knows what else to it, yet it survived until about a month ago. i opened it up and soldered the wired to stop the rattling, then she came and took it back and broke it again. lol Oh well... definitely get the Charge 5 or if budget permits, the Extreme 2 or 3... I'm curious about those. Hope this helps. :)
