Image quality is solely governed by the TV, so there won't be any controls for it on the remote for the bluray player; I would suggest swapping HMI cables and seeing if that clears the issue, then rechecking the tv remote one more time. For the DVD itself, it's either 4:3 or 16:9 and should say which it is on the case. It could be 4:3 upscaled to 16:9, which sometimes produces distortion noticeable on an HD screen.
