“I can hear the TV (which is a sony ,but not a smart TV) without a problem, as we connected the headphones through our cable box, but I can't hear any of the streaming services like Netflix. Any way to resolve this issue ?”

Don't connect thru the cable box or that's the only sound you'll get (not streaming services). Use the output from your tv then you'll hear whatever the tv is showing.
