Does the headphones discharge when left on and the TV is turned off? null

Yes if the phones are not on the charging tower. But the will hold the charge for a week or so.

When the headphones are properly seated on the transmitting dock the headphones are shut off (you can verify this by watching the green light on the headphones going off!) thereby saving the batteries from discharging in the headset.

They sit on a little stand that recharges them whether the TV is on or not.

Hello there, like any other devices that are operated by batteries, there will be a slight battery discharge when the device is unused. We recommend taking off the battery specially if you'll not use it for a long time.

Not that I noticed in my testing. I bought these for my father-in-law who is susceptible to certain tones. I did not find any whistling, whining, popping, or discharge when power was cycled on this device, the television, or the sound bar that I routed this through.
