I think while you wear the headset you turn up the volume on the tv she can listen.
I have not tried it cause my wife always has the volume on zero (0) on the tv. She sleeps while I watch tv.
The headset has a volume control so you can set it to what your comfortable also.

Either or, can’t use tv speaker and earphones at the same time, on my tv.
