It works great on today's TV models when you buy a Digital to Analog Audio Converter. Highly recommended.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It works with any sound that the tv puts out. You plug it into the back of the tv in the audio out with an 1/8th inch cable and it works great. My mom uses them with the tv because she is hard of hearing and says they are wonderful. She has recommended them to my brother to use as well. I don't know about the distortion part of the question.
