I have not heard of a recall. I have this lens and use it with a Canon M5 (mirrorless). It does struggle with birds in flight, especially if they are close to you. I would use a prime lens if you are shooting birds since they will focus more quickly. My Canon 70-200mm, f2.8 does quite well with birds in flight, for example.
