“Will this alert me in real time on my phone if someone is trying to break in to my car or steal the catalytic converter? Where I live it's not a matter of if but when, and this is proving to be extremely difficult to find in a dash cam.”

You would require a dedicated mobile hotspot that is always on and connected to car. Unfortunatly the camera doesn't have cellular signal or Bluetooth warning. And it often disconnects on wifi to phone.

However, it may not capture a theft if it does not set of the cameras G-Sensor. However, if you have the parking mode set to motion detection it should capture any motion near your vehicle!
