the GUIDE is downloaded over the Internet, so just use the hot spot once every two weeks to update the Data in GUIDE

This is what I copied from the internet: Your TiVo box needs a high-speed Internet connection to receive program listings, TiVo® service updates, and on-demand content. The type of network connection you choose will depend on what you want to do with your TiVo box(es), and whether it's possible to connect an Ethernet cable to your TiVo box(es).

As ours is always connected to the internet I can't say either way whether it would record. Wish I could be more help!
