Customers are saying

Customers love the BOLT OTA 1TB DVR & Streaming Player's ease of use, reliable DVR and recording features, and excellent picture quality. Many appreciate the comprehensive channel guide and the ability to easily skip commercials. While some users mention limitations in app support and the necessity of a subscription, the positive feedback on core functionalities outweighs these concerns. The remote control also receives high praise for its intuitive design.

This is an expensive item and I am very dissatisfied with this product. First, you have to buy a subscription to use it and I have not been able to connect to the service. Also, when using an antenna, I get more channels with the antenna connected directly to the TV that when Connected to this very expensive tivo device.

Exactly what I was looking for. Something that has dvr and functions like a regular cable box for an antenna. Its loaded with features and I love the skip commercials feature when playing recorded shows from the dvr.

I bought a roamio ota dvr a few years ago and love it. When I saw this bolt ota on clearance for about half the price of my roamio I knew I had to have it in my other room instead of a TiVo mini. Now I have2 tb of recording space between the two dvr’s.

It streams Netflix and Amazon and Hulu like a champ. Just be aware you can't load any app you want on it, only what's in the TiVo pre-loaded app family. Also, in order to watch HBO on this TiVo Bolt OTA version, HBO Go & HBO Now are not supported, so the workaround is to add HBO via Amazon channels and watch HBO content through the Amazon Video app. Overall, the channel guide loads very quickly and the DVR performs just as you would hope. The remote is the same one many cable companies use, so the whole system feels very legit. Only knocking off 1 star because they advertise HBO Go right on the box and you can't use HBO Go with the TiVo Bolt OTA. Very misleading.

    Best DVR for cord-cutters

Terabyte disk drive and 4 tuners make this twice as good as the $15/month Frontier DVR rental. And no more $25/month (+fees!) for Frontier local-channels-only-TV-service. The Tivo Guide is only $7/month and includes auto-commercial skip for many Over The Air recordings. The free Tivo iPad app is even better for searching, managing and watching recordings, and unlike the Frontier app, so far I can watch everything already recorded without restrictions. Remote viewing quality beats my old Slingbox, and I can download recordings to watch on a plane. Tivo also searches my streaming subscriptions, such as HBO, Prime Video and Netflix. Cons: waiting for AppleTV+ & Disney+ app support, a serious lack of instructions (had to Google for answers), and I cannot find out how to make the Thumbs Up/Down work.

Bought this after my prior OTA DVR by Channel Master stopped recording. The TiVo Bolt OTA DVR is very easy to set-up, has an exceptional channel guide, ease of use DVR, and also allows you to access some streaming channels via the TiVo device. This thing is so much better than my prior Channel Master DVR that I’m glad it crapped out leading me to search for a new option. Glad I found the TiVo Bolt... it’s awesome!

I have used Tivo for several years. I had the cable version of the Bolt, 500GB, but since cutting the cord a few years ago, I thought I'd upgrade (downgrade?) to the Tivo Bolt OTA 1GB since the monthly subscription was significantly lower and will pay for itself over time vs my other unit. I had bought it on sale, but then it went on close-out soon after at Best Buy and they priced matched the even lower price over the phone! Being able to do all the usual DVR things like pause live TV, recording multiple channels at the same time, etc. is great, but the big plus is the automatic commercial skip on maybe 90% of the shows I record that are not on Hulu (where I have the commercial free service). It also works flawlessly with my two older Tivo minis which are unfortunately not wireless, so I have them all connected over my old cable TV wiring using MOCA adapters. This OTA unit was not as streamed lined to set up than in the past. Not sure why but the initial update downloaded at install reported a beta guide error and to report it to Tivo (could not get past it). After basic troubleshooting with Tivo, they told me to ultimately reboot the box a 2nd time where it retrieved an update once again, and this time it worked. I also had problems fully registering the device online which required a 2nd phone call to Tivo to complete since it kept reporting that it was processing (for days).

I wanted to get rid of Cable but was addicted to DVR! Football ,the ability to record and watch on my time. This is what the Dr. ordered. The pay part for Guide is worth it if you do annual. 4 Stars only because I think they can always update anything for the better with downloads in future. When and If that happens I'll change my Rating! Good Product so far! (90days)

Easy to set up and use. However, I recommend an outdoor antenna to get more stations and better picture. Also, be aware that Tivo does NOT receive Disney or ESPN at this time, or some of the newer apps. Write to the company to have them upgrade.

If you are getting rid of cable or satellite and using an antenna, this will s a great DVR. The interface is different but easy to learn. The guide is also a nice feature & I like how you can delete channels that you don’t want showing your on your guide. I also really like the commercial skip function. I purchased the lifetime subscription service for $250. I also like how this DVR has an HDMI output that I can connect to my home theatre amplifier, none of the other OTA DVRs has this feature. If you are cutting the cord & setting up an antenna , I would highly recommend this DVR

I recently "cut the cord" with a certain satellite tv service. I installed an OTA antenna and use streaming services. I bought the Tivo Bolt OTA because I wanted a nice channel guide interface and the ability to dvr broadcast shows for convenience. I also bought a Tivo Mini to use in the master bedroom. While the software guide is nice, the monthly charge for it is not. There is also no way to use any of the streaming live channel apps (Sling, Hulu w/Live TV, or Youtube TV). You can have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and the basic Hulu service, but no live channel apps. What really ended my efforts to use this setup was the level of complication in setting up the Tivo Mini. It requires a MoCa network that I could never get to work, and Tivo's online instruction guide is sadly lacking any clarity. Bottom line: Getting this to work correctly was going to require that I run more coax in my house and add electrical outlets. Too much trouble and expense. I took everything back to Best Buy.

The TIVO Bolt OTA 1TB DRV is a very good DVR. I owned a DTV PAL DVR for 10+ years but it was locking up, so I decided to step up to the TIVO. I also bought the lifetime guide from TIVO. It is much easier to use than my old DVR for recording and organizing shows, and the built in streaming APPs are also a plus.

Decided to cut out cable TV. Bought an antenna and TIVO. Couldn't be happier. Saving a ton of money. Better features than cable TV. Skip thru commercials with the press of a button. Four tuners versus two with cable. Can still get a guide thru ethernet. Can program to record shows even when not currently scheduled to air. Multi-room capability with the mini. Easy to set up. Takes some doing to figure out how to use all of the features.

It really makes your OTA experience seems cable or satellite like. Recast does similar things but not as quickly or advanced. With Amazon Recast there is no Subscription fees which is extremely nice but again the unit isn’t as quick or have the capability of Tivo. Tablo was very close to Tivo but also required a subscription fee so I went with the best. TiVo is quick and 4K ready. TiVo downside as everyone states expensive. I at this point you have to buy the expensive mini to view on another TV. The Fire sticks and Apple TV apps are supposed to be coming but aren’t here yet. For that I deduct one star. If your an apple using you can put the TiVo app on your phone or I-pad and mirror it to your TV via Apple TV a workaround. You get what you pay for. One year without cable buys your subscription and units for 4 tv’s.

Best Way to Cut the Cord

Great way to cut that cord while still recording your OTA programs. Limited means of connecting to Tivo Mini is a drawback, as is, the lack of some station programming in the Guide, which prevents recording on some channels. Tivo is supposed to be working on solving the channel guide but, no resolve in three weeks.

A full function DVR that provides all the benefits of Cable or Satellite TV for Antenna TV without the monthly fees. Enjoy gr8 ultra HD picture quality, record all your favorite antenna programs. Recommend purchasing the optional Guide which prompts when favorite programs will be on in addition to all the usual DVR features.

As a newer cord-cutter, I debated quite a while before buying the TiVo, but once I did, I was absolutely delighted with its performance. Easy to set up: you can be using its features in an hour or so. I love all the features and the remote is excellent as well. Although the remote is not backlit, it has an instinctive feel and is quite easy to manipulate in a darkened room. Plus, the remote took over and I no longer use any of my other remotes, which includes sound bar, Roku, Amazon Prime, LG TV, and it even worked with the Dish satellite receiver, which I no longer have. If you are in the market for an OTA recorder, look no further!

Works awesome on main TV. We knew that we would need to get a mini for each TV that we want to see recorded shows but was not aware that we had to have an ethernet connection in the other locations. We did purchase the "bridge" but could never get it to work. We like TIVO so have decided to just go ahead and have a couple of ethernet connections run. Customer service has not been the best from TIVO... just saying.

Connected this TiVo to an over the air antenna and couldn’t be more pleased. I had a different DVR with only two tuners and kept running into recording conflicts. This product has 4 tuners, so that is a thing of the past. Connected to a a 4K OLED TV and the picture is great. This is a must have for anyone who has gotten rid of cable and uses an antenna.
