This unit will work for you as long as you do not use a streaming service such as Netflix. The amount of data it uses to get the guide is minimal, if you need to know exactly how much data this DVR would use to just get the guide I recommend contacting Tivo prior to purchase.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does use some data to keep the guide updated, about 33mb per day per TiVo. If you strictly watch OTA programming it shouldn't be a problem. Not sure if you have hard data limit or if you just get throttled back when you go over the 10G. We gave up Dish Network and went to TiVo and so far we are very satisfied since most of the TV we watch is OTA network programming. The TiVo does come with APPS such as Netflix, Hulu, You Tube, just to name a few so be careful not to stream shows as it will eat up your data in no time (uses about 2G of data to watch an hour of Netflix). We like the ability to use the guide to setup shows to record and watch at a later time. Also the skip feature is nice and if you program it right it will automatically skip commercials.
