“There seems to be 2 answers here to the question "Do I need an internet connection to use this recorder??. Yes and no. So if I am using an OTA antenna, why would I need an internet connection?? (asking because my internet is very, very slow)”

The internet is for the guide and the apps. You might can record a show as you watch. The guide is to set up recording programs coming on in the future or multiple programs and apps (other than viewing programs) can be used to record past programs.
