Unfortunately nobody can answer this question without seeing what happened when it happened and without knowing LOTS more about the situation (software, etc) You can try a file recovery tool, but for that to work the sectors would need to have been untouched. If they were overwritten with new data, then your old data is unrecoverable. Remember, when you delete a document off of an external drive it DOES NOT go to the recycle bin. It permanently deletes it.

If your drive has any bad sectors or issues this will isolate them. NOTE: This can take quite awhile (many hours) depending on how large your My Passport drive is. Once this test completes then run the test called Check Status of your Drive. From here there should not be any issues with your files disappearing from the drive unless there are issues with your O/S. One quick way to check this is that once you save a file to the drive go into your windows O/S and click on My PC and access this drive and see if that file is there. Not knowing which O/S your on, you may also think about running a fix on your O/S or reinstalling it. Periodically since O/S are software and do have glitches over time. O/S do require updates to fix bugs and security issues. Once you check out the drive and O/S if you still have issues with the drive, I would open up a case with Western Digital to help you. These drives are under a 3 year warranty.
