I want to buy a rack to mount this in. Is this a 6U? 12U? null

This unit only takes a 1U space. If you bought a 6U rack, then you would have 5U space left over. I bought a 6U rack and put a few otther items in the rack and have tons a space left over.

This switch should only be 1RU. So unless you're cramming a ton of equipment in the rack, a 6RU should be fine.
