I would say any covering would diminish the signal, but it’s recommended to be placed off the ground (mine is 11 feet high) for better reception and broadcast.

However, by just how much is uncertain without knowing the density and material the fake rock is made of. Generally speaking, the Deco X50-Outdoor should be installed in an elevated position (e.g., on a post/pole) to provide optimal coverage; so we would not recommend installing it on the ground.
