• No smart bulb required. With a non smart bulb in the your LR lamp the mini (KASA app) will turn it on & off via your network. Haven't tried via Alexa or Google assistant.

• The kasa switch turns whatever is plugged into it on and off. Its the same as plugging in the lamp or unplugging it. You do not need a smart bulb in addition to the switch. But, the switch does not act as a dimmer, nor does it change the color of the light. If you want that, then you'll need a smart bulb but no smart switch.

• You don't need a smart bulb as well. Keep in mind that this switch is for on/off and doesn't dim your lights. I linked Google Home/Assistant to their app and it works flawlessly. I simply use voice commands to turn on/off along with schedules i have setup.
