This plug does not do energy monitoring.

Yes, it does do energy monitoring. But Matter doesn't support that feature yet, so you have to use the TP-Link app to make that work. You can't just set it up in HomeKit and Google Home, etc., and expect them to be able to use the energy monitoring features.
