The tripod will only hold the phone horizontally. You could probably bend the legs to set up portrait shots, but it would not be ideal. The neck of the tripod can move up and down (like shaking your head yes). It can not rotate left and right.

i gotta say that it's locked in the landscape position, unless you lay down on it's side or wrap the legs around something that'll hold it in a vertical position. the neck definitely can be moved up and down for a different angle.
