This is a Tilt Switch. It requires that the switch be tilted a significant amount to activate, to ensure a positive on and off. If it is mounted almost level, small vibrations or even parking the car on a hill, could trip the switch, when unwanted. This is better used for something like, switching lights on and off on car engine hood or trunk lids (which is what I used it for). The are better devices for a car alarm, called Vibration Sensors, a similar size as this switch, but they have a spring and a wire inside the spring. Any shaking motion moves the spring and make momentary contact with the inner wire. So it doesn't sense the angle of the car, but senses sudden/ uneven movements. And they activate only momentarily during a vibration. The Tilt Switch, shown, is intended to turn on and stay on until the switch goes back to the original angle. Then turn off and stay off until the angle is changed again.
