Hello Germaphobe - Running distilled white vinegar and warm water through the unit and handle regularly, as recommended, will prevent the issue by breaking down any buildup that may be accumulating. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The tube stays full of water, but the water is replaced each time the unit is used. I suppose things could grow if you let it sit for an extended period, but that should not happen if you use it daily.
